Diet
I was holding these birds for another breeder, and in the 48 hours they were with me, they ate lots of egg food, some gamebird crumbles and scattered a 2-quart jar of parakeet seed mix looking for something. I also offered a pellet insect food (Bevo Universal), but am not sure that they ate any of it.

Breeder's Notes
I have never kept this species. I simply had the opportunity to photograph these beautiful birds.

I was warned not to keep them in with other birds that have a red face, such as my Star finches. Apparently the males can be quite aggressive to other males of their own kind and even those that just look like they might be.

Additional Notes
This species is parasitized by the Paradise Whydah (Vidua paradisaea)

There are numerous subspecies.
