Magpie Mannikin Fledgling |

| Magpie Mannikin fledgling with parent.
For me, the hobby of keeping finches or finch aviculture has always been about breeding the birds. From my very first pair of Zebra finches to any species that I add to my collection now. The challenge and the joy of keeping some of the species is to have a pair so comfortable in their environment and fed properly to reproduce successfully in their cage environment. It is also a bit of a surprise at times to see what the young will look like in their juvenile plumage. Often duller or not as flashy as the adults, they are nonetheless interesting to see as they emerge from the nests to join the world and learn to fly. This year I have added a 12-month wall calendar that features some of the fledglings I have photographed over the years. I hope you have a successful year breeding your finches in 2009! |
